Shoe Goo is a flexible rubber adhesive and sealant that skateboarders use to repair and reinforce skate shoes.
It works by curing into a tough, rubber-like layer that:
- Protects the toe area from ollie wear.
- Repairs holes in suede, leather, canvas, and rubber soles.
- Reattaches soles that are starting to separate.
- Adds grip instead of becoming slippery.
-
Why skaters use it
Modern griptape can destroy shoes quickly. Applying a thin layer of Shoe Goo to high-wear areas before they wear through can make shoes last 2–5 times longer, depending on how often and how aggressively you skate.
How to use it
- Clean the shoe and let it dry completely.
- Lightly rough up smooth rubber with sandpaper if repairing a sole.
- Apply a thin layer over the worn area.
- Smooth it with an ice cube, soapy finger, or plastic card.
- Let it cure for 24–72 hours before skating (longer for thicker repairs).
Tips
- Several thin coats are stronger than one thick blob.
- For large holes, glue a small piece of suede or fabric underneath first, then cover with Shoe Goo.
- It has a strong solvent smell while curing, so use it in a well-ventilated area.
-
For most skateboarders, Shoe Goo is considered one of the cheapest ways to extend the life of skate shoes, especially if you skate street or do lots of flip tricks.
- Prevent premature wear on skate shoes
